Bills’ Zay Jones Has To “Earn His Way” Into Lineup

Published

on

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones, a 2017 2nd round pick, will need to step it up if he wants to make it to the Bills’ lineup.

Jones didn’t do anything special during his rookie season, as injuries plagued his entire campaign. Jones spent much of the season dealing with a shoulder injury, and now he missed offseason work following knee surgery.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane wants to see Jones earn his spot in the lineup.

“He’s not just going to necessarily go right to the top of the line,” Beane said, during a recent appearance on WGR 550. “He’ll have to earn his way. Part of that will just be just getting his feel. He’s only played with Nathan Peterman. He has not got to play with Josh Allen or AJ [McCarron] yet. So that bond there will just have to form.”

Jones is a part of a receiver group that includes Kelvin Benjamin, Andre Holmes, Jeremy Kerley, and Brandon Reilly.

“My main priority right now is getting back healthy. I can still play, man. I’m not thinking about retirement. I just don’t know where it will be,” Thomas said, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.

“I told them I would love to finish my career here, but we’ll see…This is what we have to deal with as players and guys in the locker room. I hope my appearance and being around the guys and talking to a couple of guys helped. I don’t want to say I helped that much play-wise, but leadership-wise, I think I helped.”
