Patriots Release Malcolm Mitchell

The New England Patriots have released wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

New England has been trying to deal Mitchell, 26, a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, in recent months, shopping him on the trade market earlier this summer, but were unable to find a deal.

Mitchell has been hampered by injuries, missing all of the 2017 season, and limited in practices during this offseason, after undergoing a minor procedure on his knee.

Texans Sign Darren Fells

The Houston Texans have signed veteran tight end Darren Fells to a one-year deal, according to FOX 26’s Mark Berman.

Fells, 32, was cut by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month after the team failed to find a trade.

Fells, who inked a three-year, $12 million deal with the Browns last year, managed only 11 receptions in his only season in Cleveland.

Chiefs Sign Bashaud Breeland

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed cornerback Bashaud Breeland to a one-year deal with incentives that could push the value to a max of $5 million, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Breeland played in just seven games for the Green Bay Packers last season, but was very production when he was on the field, hauling in 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery in 2018.

Jets Sign Tom Compton

The New York Jets have signed veteran guard Tom Compton to a one-year deal, according to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.

Compton provides vast experience, with over 30 starts over his 7 seasons in the league, and started 14 games for the Minnesota Vikings last season, playing at left guard, right guard, and right tackle.
