Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. Working Towards Record-Breaking Contract

The New York Giants and superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. have “made progress on what is expected to be a record-breaking contract”, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

Per the report, there is now “reasonable optimism” an agreement will be reached by the time the Giants open the 2018 regular season when they take the field to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 9th.

While specifics were not reported, it’s worth noting that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans’ $55 million is currently the highest guaranteed figure among all wide receivers, and Pittsburgh Steelers superstar wideout Antonio Brown boasts a $17 million annual salary, according to Spotrac.

The New York Giants are ramping up their activity ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

After trading for New York Jets’ defensive lineman Leonard Williams on Monday, it appears that Giants aren’t done dealing just yet.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are shopping cornerback Janoris Jenkins and linebacker Alec Ogletree.

Giants Acquire Leonard Williams

The New York Giants have acquired veteran defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the New York Jets, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Giants will land Williams, 25, in exchange for a 2020 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-round draft pick, with the chance that the fifth-rounder could elevate to a fourth-round pick is Williams inks a contract with the Giants.

Additionally, the Jets are paying $4 million of the $6 million that Williams is owed for the rest of the 2019 season.

Giants’ Ryan Connelly Tears ACL

New York Giants’ rookie linebacker Ryan Connelly has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, according to an official team announcement.

Connelly left during the fourth quarter of the Giants win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, and Connelly seemed to know that it was a serious injury.

“It does not feel good,” Connelly said after the game. “I’m hoping it’s nothing is what I can say.”

Connelly, a fifth round draft pick, was impressing many with his play after taking over the starting job amid injuries to Alec Olgletree and Tae Davis.
