The Atlanta Falcons have signed Giorgio Tavecchio, according to an official team announcement.
Tavecchio, who spent last season with the Oakland Raiders, becomes the third kicker on the Falcons’ roster and will compete with Matt Bryant, the team’s all-time leading scorer, and rookie David Martin for the starting gig.
The Falcons won’t have much time to make their decision as roster cuts coming on Saturday.
Falcons’ Austin Hooper Out with Knee Injury
Losing Hooper will be a big blow for the Falcons, as Hooper leads all NFL tight ends in receptions, and hauled in 4 receptions for 17 yards and a touchdown before being forced out of Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
Hooper has 56 catches for 608 yards and six scores this season for the Falcons.
Falcons Sign Kasey Redfern
Redfern will take the pace of Matt Wile, who struggled during the game against the Houston Texans, with a number of kickoffs landing out of bounds.
The Falcons are currently 1-4 on the season.
Falcons Not Currently Considering Coaching Change
“No. … This staff has performed before. My hope is they can fix what needs to be fixed and start winning some games,” Blank said, per the report.
The Falcons dropped to 1-4 following their loss at the hands of the Houston Texans on Sunday, and look like a shell of the team that went to the Super Bowl only a few years ago.
The Falcons have seen a complete drop from their defense, and their offense has fallen off considerable since Kyle Shanahan left to become the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
