The Buffalo Bills named Nathan Peterman their starter to open the 2018 regular season and head coach Sean McDermott believes that the second-year quarterback has earned the right to start Week 1 for the team.

“I thought his total body of work all the way back from the spring through the summer and fall camp to this point, he has certainly earned the right,” Sean McDermott said of Peterman, via WGR Radio.

“I believe he’s a resilient young man” McDermott continued. “He’s certainly come through some times of adversity throughout his career. Look, he’s still a young player. I’ve been impressed with his mental toughness, his command of the offense, the way he’s generated yards and points in the preseason, as well, and the way he’s developed to this point.”

Peterman and first-round pick Josh Allen are the only signal callers on the roster following the Bills trade that sent A.J. McCarron to the Oakland Raiders.
