The New Orleans Saints have designated wide receiver TommyLee Lewis to return from the injured reserve list, according to NFL reporter Howard Balzer.
Lewis was placed on injured reserve back in September due to a knee injury, and as rules regarding the injured reserve list state that it requires a minimum 8 week absence, Lewis will be officially eligible to return to the field, in game, during Week 11.
Lewis, 26, has notched only 17 receptions during his two seasons with the Saints.
Saints’ Ben Watson Retiring At End of Season
New Orleans Saints veteran tight end Ben Watson is reportedly planning to retire at the end of the season, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune.
Watson, 38, has played 15 years in the NFL, and has been incredibly durable throughout his career.
The former 2004 1st round draft pick re-signed with the Saints, via a one year deal, prior to the season, and has collected 33 receptions for 371 yards and 2 touchdowns, one of those was Drew Brees’ 500th career touchdown pass.
Watson has 528 receptions, 5,856 receiving yards, and 44 touchdowns throughout his career so far.
Saints Re-Sign Derek Newton
The New Orleans Saints have brought back offensive lineman Derek Newton, after releasing him earlier this month.
At the beginning of December, the Saints signed Newton to a two-year deal, with the expectation that he would be able to return to the field in the future.
However, the Saints suffered a number of injuries and needed to cut Newton in order to add some healthy bodies to the roster.
New Orleans also signed offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas and in a corresponding move, cut defensive back Josh Robinson and defensive lineman Mitchell Loewen.
Saints Release Derek Newton
The New Orleans Saints have released offensive tackle Derek Newton, who has been attempting to make a comeback from two torn patellar tendons.
New Orleans signed Newton to a two-year deal earlier this month and Newton hasn’t played since 2016, meaning the Saints were willing to be patient with his potential return to the field.
However, a need for depth forced the Saints to cut those plans short, and they released Newton on Thursday.
In a corresponding move, the Saints signed Cornelius Lucas.
