Carolina Panthers veteran linebacker Thomas Davis is uncertain about his future with the only team he has ever played for, the Panthers.
Davis has spent his entire 14-year career in Carolina and with free agency approaching , he isn’t sure if he will be back with the Panthers in 2019.
“If it’s up to me, it’s not,” Davis said, according to Max Henson of the Panthers’ official website.
“It’s extremely tough having that uncertainty, not really knowing what’s going to happen in the future. But at the same time, it’s out of my control, so it’s not something I can really dwell on. It’s all about going out and playing hard and competing for my teammates.”
Davis, who has contemplated retirement before, expressed his loyalty to the Panthers franchise.
“Man, I only want to wear these colors. I’ve expressed that over and over,” Davis said. “But at the same time, you know I don’t want to be put into a situation where I’m forced to walk away too early. We’ll see what happens.”
Panthers Not Re-Signing Thomas Davis
Carolina Panthers veteran linebacker Thomas Davis isn’t going to be returning to the team in 2019.
Davis, 35, has played his entire career in Carolina and intends on continuing his playing career, but he announced that the Panthers have informed him that they are not going to bring him back, planning to move in a “different direction” next season.
Panthers Place Shaq Thompson On IR
The Carolina Panthers have placed linebacker Shaq Thompson on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, which will sideline him for the remainder of the season.
Carolina made a similar decision in regards to quarterback Cam Newton, who they shut down for the season as well, due to a shoulder injury.
Thompson, 24, has enjoyed his best statistical season to date, collecting 3.5 sacks and 79 total tackles for Carolina this season.
Panthers’ Cam Newton Unsure About Shoulder Issue
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has clearly been dealing with a shoulder injury, but the veteran signal caller isn’t sure what exactly is wrong.
“For people who [have] labrum, rotator cuff, just shoulder soreness . . . I wish I could say what the injury is because I don’t really know what it is either,” Newton said, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
“No matter how much you push, no matter how much you ice, the anti‐ inflammatory you take. Trust me, I’ve done it. Acupuncture, massages. There’s not a night that goes by without me getting some type of work done on my arm. You just don’t have the strength.”
Newton’s Panthers were eliminated from playoff contention following Monday Night’s loss to the New Orleans Saints.
“From the range of motion, you work on the range of motion then come game time and you never know how the game can play out. Of course you try to stay under 25-30 throws, but if you surpass that or you get hit on it or you have to run or you get tackled and fall on your shoulder, certain things happen.”
