Cardinals Hiring Kliff Kingsbury as Next Head Coach

Published

on

The Arizona Cardinals are reeling in a hot collegiate coaching name as they are in the process of making former Texas Tech head coach and current USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury their next head coach, according to Fox Sports’ Pete Schrager.

Kingsbury recently took the job as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator, but a small buyout in his contract will allow him to jump ship, despite USC initially blocking him from interviews, according to The Athletic’s Jay Glazer.

The Cardinals fired Steve Wilks after one season, and had interviewed former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase, former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for their head coaching vacancy.

Cardinals Release David Amerson

The Arizona Cardinals have surprisingly released veteran cornerback David Amerson.

Amerson’s release is surprising considering that Cardinals’ cornerback Patrick Peterson will miss the first 6 games of the season as he serves a suspension.

Arizona will now lean on Byron Murphy and/or Tramaine Brock in the hopes they can hold down the spots until Peterson can return. The Cardinals also have Chris Jones, Nate Brooks, Brandon Williams, and Deatirck Nichols on the roster as well.

Cardinals’ Patrick Peterson Issues Apology

Arizona Cardinals All-Pro defensive back Patrick Peterson has issued a public apology following his 6-game ban from the league for PEDs.

Peterson has been quite the lightning rod for the Cardinals recently. Along with the suspension he has been the subject of trade talks, and requesting a trade himself last October.

Peterson has since dedicated himself to the organization, and has even sought out a restructure of his contract in attempt to lessen the financial impact his suspension would have.

“Definitely, definitely sorry for what happened today,” Peterson said, according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss , via Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk

“For the most part, I think you guys understand my character and also understand my commitment on and off the field and also to my teammates and also the Arizona Cardinals organization. That’s why this is obviously very, very hard for me, because I’ve never been in this situation before and never wanted to have my name attached to anything like this. But I’m looking to move forward, put this behind me.

“I want to thank my family, my teammates, the coaching staff, the Arizona Cardinals’ community and also the organization. I’m looking forward to getting back Week Seven. I’m going to try to keep the smile on my face and getting back to being the best DB in the league.”
