According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D.Orlando Ledbetter, is expected to take the job, after beating out Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and former Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.
Koetter will replace Steve Sarkasian, who was fired at the end of the season.
Falcons Fire Steve Sarkisian, Marquand Manuel, Keith Armstrong
While the Atlanta Falcons will retain head coach Dan Quinn, they are cleaning house on his staff.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Falcons have fired offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel, and special teams coach Keith Armstrong.
Atlanta finished the season 7-9, and while injuries played a big part in the down year, the organization was clearly not happy with the performance from members of their coaching staff.
Falcons Likely Firing Steve Sarkisian
The Atlanta Falcons had a very disappointing season, mainly due to injuries across the board, and while they will be bolstering their roster during the offseason, they may also be looking for a new offensive coordinator.
According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, there is a “strong possibility” that the Falcons fire current offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, among some of the changes they are going to make this upcoming offseason.
Additionally, the Falcons could explore a change at defensive coordinator as well.
Falcons Place Ito Smith On IR
The Atlanta Falcons will be without running back Ito Smith for the remainder of the season as they have placed him on injured reserve, per a team announcement on Monday.
Smith was given more carries after the Falcons lost Devonta Freeman earlier this season and racked up 316 yards and 4 touchdowns over 14 games.
Smith certainly showed potential during his time on the field.
