Browns Hire Freddie Kitchens as Head Coach

The Cleveland Browns are hiring interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as their next head coach, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Kitchens, who will become the 18th coach in franchise history, impressed many with his offense and his relationship with quarterback Baker Mayfield, who developed well during his rookie season.

Mayfield posted a 5-3 record, completing 68.4 percent with 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions and five sacks

Browns interim coach and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was relieved of his duties and is no long with the team.

Texans Sign Darren Fells

The Houston Texans have signed veteran tight end Darren Fells to a one-year deal, according to FOX 26’s Mark Berman.

Fells, 32, was cut by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month after the team failed to find a trade.

Fells, who inked a three-year, $12 million deal with the Browns last year, managed only 11 receptions in his only season in Cleveland.

Chiefs Sign Bashaud Breeland

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed cornerback Bashaud Breeland to a one-year deal with incentives that could push the value to a max of $5 million, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Breeland played in just seven games for the Green Bay Packers last season, but was very production when he was on the field, hauling in 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery in 2018.

Jets Sign Tom Compton

The New York Jets have signed veteran guard Tom Compton to a one-year deal, according to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.

Compton provides vast experience, with over 30 starts over his 7 seasons in the league, and started 14 games for the Minnesota Vikings last season, playing at left guard, right guard, and right tackle.
