Saints to Hire Darren Rizzi

The New Orleans Saints are adding one of the best special teams coordinator in the NFL, as they will hire Darren Rizzi to their staff, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Rizzi parted ways with the Miami Dolphins after a lengthy tenure, following the hiring of Brian Flores. Rizzi was interviewed for the head coaching gig, but decided to leave instead of stay on as part of Flores’ staff.

Rizz will replaced Mike Westhoff, who was dismissed from his post with the team.

Bengals Request to Interview Aaron Glenn Denied by Saints

The Cincinnati Bengals continue to run into dead ends as they continue to try and find their next defensive coordinator.

The Bengals had requested an interview with Glenn, the current secondary coach of the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Saints intend to block the Bengals from interviewing Glenn, forcing the Bengals to, yet again, go in a different direction in regards to their search.

Saints to Retain Dennis Allen

After drawing interest for other coaching jobs, including head coaching interviews, from around the league, Dennis Allen will return to his post as the defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Allen had been linked to the Cincinnati Bengals, and was expected to take over as defensive coordinator under new head coach Zac Taylor, but Allen has decided to work out a new deal with New Orleans.

Allen was also under consideration for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job, which eventually went to Brian Flores.

The Saints vastly improved this season on the defensive side of the football, after struggling for many years, ranking 8th in DVOA in 2017 and 11th i 2018 under Allen’s watch.

Saints’ Drew Brees Returning in 2019

It comes as no surprise to anyone, but New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has confirmed that he is returning to play in 2019.

“I plan on being here next year and making another run at it,” Brees said, according to NOLA.com’s Luke Johnson.

Brees, who will be playing in his 19th season in 2019 admits that chances at another Super Bowl Championship are running low.

“Each one of these is unique,” Brees said. “Each one is special. I’m not getting any younger, though some days I feel like it.”
