The Miami Dolphins may be looking to rebuild, but they won’t do so at the cost of promising young players such as Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard.

According to ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, the Dolphins are talking with Howard’s representatives regarding a new, long-term deal, and is in the team’s long-term plans.

Howard has stated his desire to be the highest-paid cornerback in the league.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier spoke of his confidence that Howard will be a Dolphin for years to come.

“Yes, I’m very confident that he’ll be there. Xavien has been in the building. He’s coming back, working out and getting in shape again after the Pro Bowl,” Grier said. “He’s doing good. We’ve been hanging out around him. He wants to be a Miami Dolphin and we want him to be a Dolphin.”
