Doug Baldwin Announces Retirement

Seattle Seahawks veteran wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who has been a critical part of the team’s success over the past several years, has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Baldwin posted the following on Twitter:

Baldwin sent out a number of tweets eluding to the end of his career and although he never used the word “retirement”, it is clear that he is stepping away from football.

The Seahawks signed Baldwin as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford in 2011 and he became one of the greatest players in franchise history, helping the team win Super Bowl XLVIII, and helping them reach the Super Bowl the following year, where they suffered a devastating loss.

Baldwin, who has suffered a number of injuries, was released by the Seahawks last week.

The Chicago Bears won’t be lacking any confidence as they head into the 2019 season, and veteran safety Eddie Jackson believes the team is ready to make some serious noise next season.

“Everything — how short, and how far, we came,” Jackson said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“From the losing record to the winning record. How short we came, with the first-round playoff game with the field goal. Right now we just want to build off everything and let that be the fuel to our fire. We plan on taking this whole thing.”

The Bears’ success will hinge on the continued development of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky more than anything else.

Packers Release Kapri Bibbs

The Green Bay Packers have released veteran running back Kapri Bibbs, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The Packers claimed Bibbs off of waivers from the Washington Redskins back in December of 2018.

Bibbs carried the ball one time for 13 yards, and hauled in 3 passes for 13 yards during that span.

Prior to being cut from the Redskins, Bibbs posted 101 yards and three touchdowns, adding 13 receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Cowboys’ Rico Gathers Suspended One Game

Dallas Cowboys tight end Rico Gathers has been suspended for one game for the 2019 season, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Gathers was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and the suspension stems from his 2018 arrest for possession of marijuana.

Gathers spot on the Cowboys’ roster is up in the air, and the suspension won’t help his chances to make the final roster.

Gathers is heading into the final year of his rookie deal.
