The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran wide receiver Rishard Matthews.

In a corresponding move, the Saints have released wide receiver Travin Dural to create the roster spot necessary for the addition of Matthews.

Following being granted his release from the Tennessee Titans in September of last season, Matthews landed with the New York Jets, where he caught 2 passes for 13 yards before landing on the injured reserve.

Matthews was the Titans’ leading receiver in 2016 and 2017.

Armstrong takes over the roster spot created when the team placed Alex Anzalone on injured reserve.

Armstrong, 28, has bounced around the league throughout his career, playing as a depth piece.

Saints Not Placing Drew Brees on IR

The New Orleans Saints are not planning to place franchise quarterback Drew Brees on injured reserve, meaning Brees could be eligible to return sooner than eight weeks.

Had the Saints opted to place Brees on the IR, he would have been shelved for at least 8 weeks.

The Saints could see Brees return following their bye week, and will now turn to Teddy Bridgewater as their signal caller until he does return.

Saints Adjust Contract of Kiko Alonso

The New Orleans Saints have adjusted the contract of newly acquired linebacker Kiko Alonso, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Alonso, who was acquired via trade from the Miami Dolphins over the weekend, will now earn a fully guaranteed $5 million with no offsets by next week.

New Orleans will pay $4 million while the Dolphins are on the hook for $1 million.
