Jacksonville Jaguars veteran linebacker Myles Jack is keeping it cool when it comes to his current contract situation, and that is by design.
“When my time comes up, that’s when it’s going to come up. But right now, I’m just focused on going out there winning games, getting numbers and then by the end of the season that all will take care of itself,” Jack said, according to the Florida Times-Union’s John Reid.
“Obviously in my position, Telvin (Smith) is gone, so that’s 120 tackles unaccounted for, and I want at least 50 of those so I can get 150 tackles to create some leverage for myself.”
Jack has seen teammates Yannick Ngakoue hold out for a long-term deal, and Jalen Ramsey openly discuss his expectations with a new deal, but is taking a different approach.
“Obviously we love the game, but at the same time, we see the ESPN tickers going and guys getting this amount of money,” Jack said. “In [Ngakoue’s] case, from the numbers that he’s put up versus the other guys getting paid, he’s either better or neck and neck with (them). I completely understand why he’s doing what he’s doing.”
Broncos Sign Andy Janovich to Three-Year Extension
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Janovich’s new deal will net him a signing bonus of $1.35 million and includes $3.22 million fully guaranteed, making him the league’s third highest paid fullback.
Janovich is certainly a fan favorite in Denver, and was scheduled to hit free agency this offseason prior to inking the new deal.
Raiders Release J.J. Nelson
Nelson inked a one-year deal with the Raiders this offseason, but the two-year veteran was cut so the team can make the necessary room for the addition of wider receiver Zay Jones.
Nelson was added in the hopes he would provide a viable speed threat in Oakland, but has yet to produce this season.
Jets’ Chris Herndon Still Out
Herndon suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain last week while running routes, and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and will likely miss next week’s tilt against the New England Patriots.
Herndon collected 39 receptions for 502 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Jets.
