The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong.
Armstrong takes over the roster spot created when the team placed Alex Anzalone on injured reserve.
Armstrong, 28, has bounced around the league throughout his career, playing as a depth piece.
Saints Not Placing Drew Brees on IR
The New Orleans Saints are not planning to place franchise quarterback Drew Brees on injured reserve, meaning Brees could be eligible to return sooner than eight weeks.
Had the Saints opted to place Brees on the IR, he would have been shelved for at least 8 weeks.
The Saints could see Brees return following their bye week, and will now turn to Teddy Bridgewater as their signal caller until he does return.
Saints Adjust Contract of Kiko Alonso
New Orleans will pay $4 million while the Dolphins are on the hook for $1 million.
Saints Activating Sheldon Rankins
Rankins is making big strides since tearing his Achilles, and had he remained on the PUP list at the start of the season he would have been ruled out for the first 6 games of the regular season.
While it is unclear when exactly Rankins will be back on the field, it seems as though he is closer to returning and may be able to suit up within the first few games of the season.
